I am trying to do a system restore close to or at the time I installed WIN7. I didn't manually do a set point when I first installed the software.
Is this possible, and if so how?

When you select the system restore option it will show you the possible restore points. Odds are the one near the installation will not be available as there is only a small amount of disk space allocated to system restore points. You can run it without restoring as well so you can look to see if a desired point exists or not. If not you can exit without restoring.
