    Why cf adapter in desktop.

    I got a hp z800 back from our labs. Had window7.. i found a cf adapter. What could this possibly be for?

    That is a fairly common SATA to CF adapter. I had one on the front of my computer for reading and writing to CF cards for my cameras a few years ago, Now I use USB 3.0. You should be able to see the device and browse it in My Computer.

      Figured that much but guess i didnt explain well. It was mounted INDIDE the computer. Im thinking speedboost?

      I have a canon 7d mark ii that uses cf and sd... so worst case ill use cf for camera. Just trying to figure what they were using for

          That's old fashioned SSD
          Solid state, read-mostly disk.. More robust than their platter-spinning brethrens... (Shock resistant, wider working temperature range, etc)... Some older embedded computers used cf for their bootdisk. Does the computer you're talking about has a cf disk AND a regular hdd?

            I wouldn't think speedboost. Most CF cards until recently were fairly slow. If it was a business computer, It might have been used as ROM for some sort of encryption key for data security or software key for application(s).

              I have CF-Card slots on the bottom side of a few mITX boards (old carpc motherboards).

              All of the Aopen Digital Engines I purchased came with XPe on a 1 Gb CF card / SATA configuration. I swapped these out with little SATA SSD drives. They booted XPe OK though (a bit slow).

              Boot it up with the CF card / sata cables in place and see what it does or it it boots off an OS on the CF card. Did it also have another boot SATA drive in it?

                Yeah had a hd with win7.. thus my curiosity. Seems like a spare memory card for my dslr
