    Touch screens and where?

I recently read and saw the touch screen program that jon has in his site, I think its a work of art, very well implemeted with a lot of eye catching details and features. I would like to ask the population, What kind of touch screens is every body using ( a pic will be apreciated)and what are the most common places that these screens are placed in the home.

I was lucky enough to get 3 Audreys a few years back. One in the kitchen, one in the Living room and one in the bedroom. I display mostly screen savers, Caller ID information and weather maps. They are not actually used for touchscreen functionality - i.e. turning lights on/off. My family found that they are just not quite practical for this.

    Thanks

Do not overlook that this works brilliantly as a normal web page as well.

Most common places for a touchscreen are high traffic volume areas. Foyer, Kitchen, central hallway are typical favorites. Can typically be from 8 - 19 inch with most being under 15.

There are a couple commercial touchscreen software choices available, and Homeseer is working on their own internal one.

There are a couple of HS user contributed flavors as well.

Many would say, this is where the value of an automated home is exposed and what gets used in every day.

I've been looking at the Nokia N800 and was wondering if there are any Windows equivalents?

I use a mix or hardwire and wireless.
I go wired where it is easy... and wireless where I would I have to crawl between floors, or get a small neighbor kid to crawl around the attic.

I used to have 3 Audreys and they never got used much besides as nightlights and for notifications.

Now I have three touch screens, wish I had 4. Running mainlobby on these, and the PC's are all in different rooms, so there is almost zero noise from the extra PC's running, and there isn't a box taking up space in the kitchen.

                              1) In my game room, it's a 19" LCD mounted in the wall. It's nice for adjusting the lights, thermostat, or checking the weather etc. It also shows who's at my front door if someone rings the doorbell.

                              2) Theater (7" screen mounted on the recliner I sit in) This is good for lighting, thermostat, and controlling the movie etc. I also check the weather, or see who's at the front door on this one as well. My theater and my game room are attached, so a second screen in the same room seems like overkill, but it has a different purpose.

                              3) Kitchen. 15" LCD touchscreen. I ran the wires up through the floor and behind the cabinets, so the PC for this is in the basement workshop. Good for lighting, recipes and this seems to the be the terminal I let friends use when they want to just check their email. I have a wireless keyboard and mouse I can pull out for this system if needed. The location of this one is right by the doorway so it's in a very high traffic area and can be used when passing through the kitchen. Again this one also shows me who's at the front door. I also use this one to watch TV if I'm cooking.

I'll tell you that the one location I wish I had a touchscreen, and don't have one, is by my bed. I find myself forgetting to turn something off, or whatever and it sucks to have to get out of bed for something. It would also be nice to see the news in the mornings, or adjust the thermostat in the middle of the night.
