    Jon00 Email for Homeseer 3

Note: This package will only work on Windows versions of Homeseer 3. It requires Homeseer 3 version 3.0.0.84 or higher installed.

This email package was originally written for Homeseer 1 and uses old Windows COM objects to read emails from the servers. It was re-written for Homeseer 2 (several versions) and now converted to Homeseer 3. In reality, the entire package needs a total re-write using new .NET components to bring it totally up to date. Due to the sheer effort and time needed, this is currently not possible. For some reason, there is still a fan base for this so I have decided to continue to support the existing code for the time being. Most of the limitations of recent technology can be overcome including using STunnel as a SSL wrapper and adding a single OCX file (supplied) to Windows 7 & 8 installations.

One of the most common issues raised with the Homeseer 2 version was the sheer number of settings available which made things look more complex than it actually was. In this version, I have removed many from the ini file and set them internally to default values. If you are a tinkerer, or want to use some of the advanced features, these are still available but will need to be added manually.

In many respects the Homeseer 3 version is very similar to the Homeseer 2 version. All web pages have been given an overhaul with new icons and cleaner interface. The main email checking script has now been converted to a standalone email client. This takes most of the strain away from Homeseer when checking for new email and should be more responsive.

Several new features have been added but also several old features have been removed.

Added optional encryption to mail server passwords
Added support for image blocking in HTML emails
Added alternative side-by-side view to list/view emails
Added support for only announcing emails with defined strings in the subject heading.
Added better printing support for displayed emails
Added a single multi-purpose and powerful email triggering method
Removed printing of emails from defined addresses
Removed the old triggered script methods
Removed direct X10 control via password protected emails

If you have not used previous versions, this package allows you to process POP3 email accounts via Homeseer. Its primary function is to check multiple (or single) e-mail accounts for new messages and announce them. It has however been expanded to provide additional features:

Oops..forgot to add this to the docs:

In Homeseer's Settings.ini file, search for ScriptingReferences= using a text editor such as Notepad.

If it is located and has entries, add the following to the end:

      ,System.Drawing;System.Drawing.dll

If you cannot find it, add the following immediately below the [settings] entry:

      ScriptingReferences=System.Drawing;System.Drawing.dll

      Then save.

As always Jon, Love your work!

Another great addition to the Homeseer system . Has been working very well on my system, when weather warning emails arrive, it triggers a script that uses some regex magic to extract the weather warning whilst excluding all of the standard stuff (like what to do in high winds, and so on) and sends me a message / tts with all of the information.

        Great work

            Thanks Jon,

One more item I could not find is how to get it in the Homeseer menu.

            Thanks

Go to Tools, Setup, Custom tab and enter a custom page.

If you need more than four pages, checkout "Jon00 Links for Homeseer 3" on my Homeseer 3 download page.

Always happy to help test, truth be told it really is a bit of a treat when you come out with a new / updated plugin that I can help test. (like a kid on Christmas really)

                      Installing confusion

                      Hi Jon

I have a confusion trying to install the email application. It says the easy way to install it is to put the zip in to HS directory. Does this mean That when I download the file from your site, I just put the file directly to the HS3 directory and unzip it there?

                        Hector.

                        I did get your email!

It does but it may be better that you unzip the file into a temporary directory and then you can copy the Homeseer directory structure from there.

Does this have an executable file?

I extract zip in HS3, then run executable and I get this all the time.
