Adding virtual devices to be graphed

I have virtual devices that are updated every 5 minutes with tempertaure and other data, where would I put them so they would be in the databased and will be graphed.
I tried the descrete section but I get nothing, no data is picked up from the devices and I also tried the user defined and it worked but whenever I restart mcs the devices are gone from the user defined fields.

If it analog data then it goes onto any of the tabs other than discrete. If it is a temperature measurement then the Temp tabs would be appropriate. The discrete tabs save only 0/1 (on/off) transitions. The others save data at the update interval specified for database storage on the Interface/Main tab.
