      hmmm, it makes sense.

I will change it to gmt+6 (we are also CET)

      Thanks.

It does look like you have identified the problem being the period in the device string when your regional settings indicate that a comma should be used. This is really a problem with the VWS plugin not paying attention to the regional settings. I know I had a lot of difficulty in the beginning with number formats and with date formats.

mcsTemperature does have a check for data that it inputs from the Temp05 since the Temp05 always returns a period. This is done before it stores the result into a virtual device. Once data is stored in a virtual device it should be pristine with proper formatting and proper unit conversions.

I tink you need to pursue the VWS plugin to get it to produce the correct data rather than expecting mcsTemperature to clean it up. Virtual device data is used for trigger conditions, control decisions via mcsControlSystems, and it is used for storage to the database for trending. Since your input into a virtual device is asychronous to the database storage, trigger algorithms, and the control algorithms there is no good time for mcsTemperature to fix it.

You may also have an option of letting mcsTemperature populate the virtual device from the text file. I'm not aware of anyone who is using this capability, but it was designed for applications such as this. At least then if there are regional setting proplems I can handle them before the data gets into virtual device.

The CSV file VWS writes already has the dots. It's:
          1.00,2003,10,21,15,56,48,7,13,88,56,81,19.1,13.5,1007.04,93. 00,0.00,0.00,0,19.0,49,0.0,0,0.0,0,0.00,0.0,0,13.3,19.9,15.9 ,10.3,0.000,-0.4,-0.2,-0.20,-0.3,-0.3,-0.3

So I guess if I let mcsTemperature populate the virtual devices from this text file it will not change the dots into commas, isn't it?

If it does not do it now, then I can make it do it. It is just like doing it with the Temp05 when I read the dots from it. Let me know if this is the route you want to go. I don't want to do something that nobody is going to use.

I looked at it and saw it to be a very easy update to handle the decimal replacement during CSV inputs. The box to specify the replacemement characerter moved from the Temp05 tab to the Interface Tab or Version 4.10.4.

Do note that CSV inputs was a feature very early in the plugin and much has changed over the months. This code has not been exercised to the best of my knowledge in a long time.

                Michael,

I upgraded to 4.10.4 and tried to import from the CSV file.

In Devices/files, "Imput File 1", I entered the line:

                ,\1,CSVFileVersion,14,0,\2,CSVYear,14,0,\3,CSVMonth,14,0,\4, CSVDay,14,0,\5,CSVHour,14,0,\6,CSVMinute,14,0,\7,CSVSecond,1 4,0,\8,CSVWindSpeed,2,1,\9,CSVWindGust,3,1,\10,CSVWindDirect ion,1,1,\11,CSVInsideHumidity,6,1,\12,CSVOutsideHumidity,6,1 ,\13,CSVInsideTemperature,0,1,\14,CSVOutsideTemperature,0,1, \15,CSVBarometer,8,1,\16,CSVTotalRain,4,1,\17,CSVDailyRain,4 ,1,\18,CSVHourlyRain,4,1,\19,CSVWeatherCondition,14,1,\20,CS VChannel1Temperature,0,1,\21,CSVChannel1Humidity,6,1,\22,CSV Channel2Temperature,0,0,\23,CSVChannel2Humidity,6,0,\24,CSVC hannel3Temperature,0,0,\25,CSVChannel3Humidity,6,0,\26,CSVEv apotranspiration,14,0,\27,CSVUVIndex,14,0,\28,CSVSolarRadiat ion,14,0,\29,CSVWindChild,0,1,\30,CSVIndorHeatIndex,0,1,\31, CSVOutdoorHeatIndex,0,1,\32,CSVDewPoint,0,1,\33,CSVRainRate, 5,1,\34,CSVOutdoorTempRate,0,1,\35,CSVIndoorTempRate,0,1,\36 ,CSVBarometerRate,9,1,\37,CSVChannel1TempRate,0,1,\38,CSVCha nnel2TempRate,0,0,\39,CSVChannel3TempRate,0,0

Before pressing the update button I checked "General Debug Log" and this is what happened:

The CSV processing was changed to ignore fields beyond those that are specified in the definition string. It saw 38 fields in the test file with 21 in the definition string. There were some problems in the code as well that I cleaned up.

There are two rain-related fields for which mcsTempeature does not have direct mapping. The only rain-related types are daily accumulation and rain rate. I suspect that if you define total rain as a daily rain type then mcsTempeature will try to reset it to zero at midnight.

The device types have grown since the list was published. It is shown here for reference.

Finally it looks like we are on the right path!

I updated the exe and the ini and things are now working (more or less).

I guess the field to store "Input File 1" is somewhat short and have no room for the definition of the 39 devices. It permits to write in the text field but when I press the update button it cuts the field (and is cutted also in the ini file).
I was able to store some more by shortening the field names taking away the "CSV" part of the names but still not enougth.
If it's not easy to make it longer I can short the fied names but then it will be not very intuitive.

Weel, we are two steeps from the total fix!

This must be a limitation of the VB text box control. What I will do is see if the entry is a filename and if so then read from the file to get the layout definition rather than parsing the line directly. That way short definitions can be done just like now, but longer ones have a way to be entred as well. I'll make the file input ignore the CR and LF characters so they can be entred with one field per line which I find easier to read and edit. It is posted as V4.10.6

I suspect that you do not want to import all the fields from the data file and many of those have no value to be stored in the database. The time-stamp may be interesting for the virtual device so you can monitor that the data file is being updated, but likely no need to store it to the database. Any device type of Text probably should not be stored to the database since it will not be used in the charting. When data is stored to the database it puts its own timestamp and that is the time that is used for the x-axis.

I'd have to review the manual, but I believe an entry with a blank virtual device definition is ignored and blank database name is not written to the database. I think the "show in chart" field value of the definition is ignored since that is now controlled from the Trend Group setup. Even though ignored, its positional existence is still expected to maintain backward compatibility.

                              hummm! Fast support! Superb!

I looks like it's getting data into the database, but there are some issues I can see:

                              - When the Temperature.asp is shown this appears in the log:

                              23/10/2003 20:33:28~!~mcsTemperature Debug~!~Data Elements=360, Data Names=3

                              23/10/2003 20:33:28~!~mcsTemperature Debug~!~Y Axis Data Completed

I guess it's not very important, but... just in case.

The only working graphic is "LinSel" any other just gives a black scren (with menus, etc...).

Triying "Table" or "Color" or "LinTab" or "All" I get this in the log:

"La operación en varios pasos generó errores. Compruebe los valores de estado." minds something like "The process in more than one steeps" (or stages, something like a transaction) "generated errors. Check the state values".

                              Triying "Line" I get:
