Help getting started with mcsTemp, please.

I installed the current mcsTemperature plugin trial (V5.2.0), printed out the docs, and looked at the mcsTemperature HS2 Install Instructions.

I have the plugin installed, but after that, I'm a little lost. It appears that the interface may have changed since those docs were published.

I have the ADIocelot interface and want to put a couple of Bobcat Temp virtual devices into mcsTemp, store their values in the data base, and then trend them.

    How do I do this?

    Thanks!

The interfaces page has a setting for transfering data to the database and the interval to use

The sensor page allows you to enter device code and database field names.
After a Save from the sensor page you should see an acknowledge in the HS log about the fields being created in the database.

The Group page is used to select the sensor you want to include on a chart. Pick one or two of the sensor you just added, change the group from Default to some other name and then Save it. After a few database update intervals then you will have data to chart by selecting the Trend Group you just created.

After some wiring and Adnet upgrades, I had a chance to try this today. I worked my way through your instructions and added 4 Bobcat temperature sensors and 1 humidity sensor.

In the log, I got several of the following errors.

2/10/2007 1:16:14 PM - mcsTemperature - TemperatureASP 10 second Timeout On Pending ASP Request with pending level 9

      2/10/2007 1:24:12 PM - mcsTemperature - FormatTemperatureScreen on line 7430 Could not find file 'C:\Program Files\HomeSeer 2\mcsTemperature.mdb'.

      What did I do wrong?

The first of the two messages means HS allowed the mcsTemperature.asp service to be executed multiple times before letting it complete prior one. This is a situation that is not suppose to happen. I would ignore it for now until other problem is fixed.

The second one indicates that the databse is not at the location expected. There is a setting in the Database page to indicate where it is to be located. There is one for sensors and one for forecast. Put the explict path where you want it to be stored. The path C:\Program Files\HomeSeer 2\mcsTemperature.mdb is acceptable if that is what you want. The convention is to put it in the Data folder such as C:\Program Files\HomeSeer 2\Data\mcsTemperature.mdb

When is the .mdb file generated? I don't find it anywhere on the computer. Or did it not get made because I didn't spec a location?

          I'll take a look.

It is created at startup based upon the ini settings of both a checkbox to use the database and then the name of the databases.

Well, I've poked around and I can't figure out how to get the mdb file generated. Got any other suggestions?

post the mcsTemperature.ini file and I'll look at your configuration

The interfaces page has a setting for transfering data to the database and the interval to use
Your setting for Transfer mapped virtual devices to database at interval ... is not checked which means no database write operations will occur.

The Date Field Name on the Database page uses "Date" for the field name. This will cause you problems since it is a database reserved word. The default name is "SampleDate"

The Forecast database will likely be best as the same as the Sensor database. Copy the path from Sensor database to the Forecast database setting. The forecast table is spelled Forcast, which is OK if that is what you want.

The Sensors page show no name for the 5 sensors. It may be simply that the DC's you are using are not used on my setup. If it shows up blank for you too, then they should be the same as the Homeseer device names.
