    AAG wind direction

    Hi Michael,

    My wind direction suddenly quit working (heading is solid North)
    The 1wire Java app shows 0.01V to 0.03V for the 4 voltages.
    Not good isn't it ?

      You appear to have a hardware problem with the inputs to the DS2450. If you are handy with hardware you may be able to repair it. The first thing to look at is the power wire input (pin 1 on RJ-11 of schematic) to assure you have 5VDC going into the unit. The reference design is at http://www.maxim-ic.com/appnotes.cfm/an_pk/1796 and from there you can see the expected voltages based upon vane position.

          Michael,

          Thanks to your information and link, I was able to restart the wind direction sensor.
          For some reason, the DS2450 Input Voltage Range did reset to 2.56V. Anything over this value is then returned by the ADCs as 0.0V
          The trick was to replace
          08 8C 08 8C 08 8C 08 8C
          by
          08 8D 08 8D 08 8D 08 8D
          in the DS2450 Control/Status memory page, using 1wire viewer.
          The Input Voltage Range is now 5.1V and everything is nearly back to normal.

          Now:
          The Wind Direction Device allways show "N" with the indication "Never Set"
          The four Voltage Devices shows adequate and updated values; so does the I/O stream page.
          I deleted the Wind direction device and the 4 Voltage devices. They were created again, but the Wind Direction is still dead
          Can you help me ??

          This may be out of your control:
          The Input Voltage Range tend to reset to 2.56V when the sensor is disconnected from power. I have to open 1WireViewer and manually correct the 2450 memory page each time
          Any clue ??

            mcsTemperature explicitly sets the ADRange to 5.12V and the ADResolution to 8 bits each time it accesses the DS2450. I put in some debug output to HS log for the direction logic. It is attached. It will show the voltages, the computed direction index and the current and prior wind angle.

              Thanks Michael,

              In fact the factory calibration memory (page 3) was also reset to "00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00", which translated 5.0V to a value exceeding the 5.1V range.
              After a serie of hits and misses, I ended up entering "C0 00 00 00 00 00 00 00" which gives sensible values for 0.0V 2.5V 3.3V and 5.0V.

              Out of curiosity can you (and/or other good souls) access your DS2450 factory calibration memory page 3 and let me know the actual values (8 bytes)

              I installed your wind direction debug version;
              Voltages look alive and OK; Wind Angle is always 0

              What is the Voltage expected accuracy for mcstemp to compute wind direction (is 0.07 4.91 or 2.45 acceptable ?)

              Any other idea to get Wind Angle back to life ?

                I was providing a +/-0.25 volt tolerance on a base of 4.66/2.38/3.2/0.06 thresholds. Your values exceeded these. I changed the tolerance to 0.5 so it makes some of the combinations close, but still should work for all. It has been posted as V5.7.5.

                I do not have the 1-wire viewer installed, but others should be able to provide the memory contents.
