Started to play around with moving my cheaper RFID stuff over to xap. I have installed the software and I do see my tags in the com window. But they never get added into the system. Am I missing something? I have read the documentation 3 times trying to see if there is an option I need to enable yet.

All you should need to do it give the tag a name in the Location column and check the "A"ccept text box.

Your debug show a Comm Event Code of 0. An error-free status received from the COM serial port is 2. I check for a few other likely failure codes, but it is not one of those and my debug output was showing the wrong variable and that is why it is 0 rather than a valid status enumeration.

What serial hardware/driver are you using? I can change the software to allow other statuses than the normal "data received", but I first want to understand why it may be necessary. You will also want to download the software again as I fixed the debug output to show the correct status code.

Michael,

when I restarted the program, the tags showed up this time. Not sure why I did not see them before.

But they count down right away and then turn off. Even though I still did see the tag information on the I/O coming in. I have my ONW set to 20 and OffW set to 1.

The issue you are having is that the discrete status is toggling for Carrier Detect and Data Set Ready. I added a checkbox on the Connectivity section to ignore the status. Enable that checkbox and you should be good. I removed the prior version diagnostic. I uploaded the new version

Installed the new version but when I put a checkmark on that option and click save, the check mark disapprears.

I fixed the checkbox sticking problem. The other debug does illustrate that a valid status is received rather than a notifiction of a discrete level change then the software processes the tag. If it is convenient then it would also be a good idea to tie these discrete inputs to a steady state level rather than letting them float. You may have issues like this on other ports of this interface hardware with other software that tries to protect the integrity of received data.

Do you think this issue I am having is just a driver issue or would it be more of a hardware issue? I know alot of people on here that use these edgeports, which is why I got one. Just curious if you might know

The RS-232 standard has levels at -12V and +12V for the two states. When no input is connected it is likely that they are just floating near zero so the hardware is probably designed to generate events on a zero crossing. I would expect the hardware design to have a light pull up to prevent situations like you are seeing. A multimeter could be used to see exactly what the voltage levels are on these two inputs and that will tell you if you have hardware or software problems. You could also move xapmcsRFID onto another port just to see if the problem is generic for the board or just this one port. FYI, the RFID receiver does work behind a IP/Serial adapter but the edgeport is popular on this message board so you llikely will be OK and just need to keep it in mind for the future.

Just start a second instance of xapmcsRFID. There is a setup field to uniquely the xAP UID. The two will communicate with each other to report a compsite status.
