  • Ethernet shield to use

Is there a recommended Ethernet shield needed for this plugin on the SEL?

I need to add quite a few input and outputs so was going to use a mega. Does that sound like a good approach?

    Many thanks

The standard Ethernet Shield W5100 is what you need and a mega is a good idea.

I would also add that a genuine Arduino shield is recommended. I have had very bad luck with clone boards remaining connected. Out of 8 clones I purchased 1 was DOA, 1 died and all but 2 of the remaining 6 would intermittently disconnect. I now have 4 genuine Arduino POE shields in use and they are rock solid.

I also had problems with a couple of knock off Mega boards. One had an output pin stuck high and another had an output that would not stay high. I now have 3 genuine Megas and one genuine Uno in production and they are very reliable. I also have 3 NodeMCU boards that are proving to be reliable as well.

I haven't started arduino stuff yet. Irma has set back our plans a lot. One thing I really wish they had were POE shields (And maybe they do now).

These devices just scream POE to me.

Edit: sorry if I'm going slightly off topic
        Thanks,
        Frank

As I wrote above I have 4 Arduino POE shields. They are V1 shields and were purchased from Amazon. I also have some V2 shields that are now supported by the plug-in. The V2 shields have provisions to attach (solder) a POE module. I purchased modules on eBay for about $8. While I am still using the V1 shields in production, the V2 shields with the POE modules attached work reliably as well.

I don't know how I missed that! I feel like a butthead now! Sorry about that. Trying to do too much at a time.
            Thanks,
