After I create the pin input. I test the input with 5v I don't see the change from open to close. Do I need to upload the sketch? The reason I ask because this is my first try this plug in.

The input should go to ground, not 5V. You only need to update the sketch once after setting it up in the plugin, there is no need to update the sketch when you add a pin.
