ok specific to pausing music when speaking it doesn't work. The option is checked but iTunes keeps playing and the music is interrupted, speech comes out (sometimes completely sometimes clipped) and then the clients are silent following. I then have to disable and re-enable the speaker to get music to come back up (pausing and un-pausing sometimes works)

Follow up post with logs. The other issue I was asking about is resuming the playback after speech, seeing if there is an integrated solution possible for that.

it's already a feature of the iTunes DAAP plugin, if it isn't working, tell me exactly what happens and get me some debug logs

Spud got any potential for a solution on this one built into the plugin(s)?

The problem I have with my Apple-TV, is that it's quite slow to come out of standby mode.

I need to add a 20 sec delay to be certain it will be up to play the announcement.

But then all announcements are delayed 20 sec, even if the Apple-TV is alive and not in standby mode.

I don't know if Apple provides a way to know if the Apple-TV is in standby and has to boot up.

Sounds fixable either way. Was going to invest in that plugin eventually, trying to figure out my environment. It's a hodgepodge of devices with iTunes serving music.

Haven't really scripted yet might could use some help. Running shairport clients on my android tablets haven't yet tried to see what happens there since hs touch is running in the background (so you get music and spoken announcements)

Yes you can build a script that check if iTunes is playing something and if the AppleTV is enabled it would store that in a global variable and stop the music
Then after the speech you can have another script that check the global variable and resume the music if needed. But to implement this you'd need both AirplaySpeak and iTunes DAAP plugin.

One strange thing is that on my Airport Express if I play some music using iTunes, and I try to send an annoucement it doesn't work and keep playing the music. I have to stop the music before the announcement, for the speech to be spoken.
I don't have an AppleTV to test with, but from what you say I guess the AppleTV has a different behavior.

Correct itunes shows it as connected but music doesn't play. I have to disable and re-enable the Apple TV in iTunes for the music to resume

not sure I understand. Once you have sent an announcement on your AppleTV then you can't send any music from iTunes to this device?

in the config page you can choose an event to run just before an announcement and right after it, so for example if you use iTunes to play some music on your Airplay speakers, you can use an iTunes plugin to pause the music and then resume it

see this thread for an example, it's for HS2 but the same thing is possible using HS3 and the iTunes DAAP plugin.

    started a topic stopping/restarting music

    stopping/restarting music

So when music is playing and an announcement is coming through, it stops for the announcement then does not start back up. Is there a fix for that?
Working...
