New version problem with com installation

    Hello,

I have started to use this plug-in the first of September 2010. It sounds like a good thing's. I have bought it and with the new version, i have problems.
    I have a AVR-2809. i live in France (decimal separator : ",")
I use a com port for communication
With the new version of the plug-in :
The error with decimal separator disappeared
    The error with script disappeared
Functions return nothings and i can't Power on / off my AVR Denon.

    Logs of communications:
    red: return nothing
    green: return OK
The other command have done nothing to my AVR Denon: power on / power off / change input don't work

I discovered today the same with my AVR-3808 (Netherlands, so European version) linked to my network. It seems to be that I get status returns when the AVR-3808 was on when restarting homeseer (i.e. plugin initialises), but not when AVR-3808 was connected to power when homeseer was already running (each night power is switched of from wall outlet). I will investigate this further coming week.

It worked fine before the new updates of the plugins started to arrive a while ago.

I will look into your error messages...

The problem with switching off the wall power to Denon is not good. The plug-in needs the Denon to remain powered on and only to go into stand-by instead of powered off. The reason is that the Denon can not provide status when completely power off and the plug-in is out of sync with the unit...please allow Denon to remain powered and use the stand-by as off condition.

Have you powered on the Denon first....and then started plug-in to see or verify communication to the Denon? The log file does not show that Denon is responding to any requests and suggests that there is NO communication with the device.

Please leave Denon powered ON and then shut the plug-in down and restart plugin...if that fails, then verify correct serial port and cabling etc...

Mean while I will reconfigure my system to use the comm port and see if I can duplicate your problem.

                  Yes of course !

                  I have done this process.

                  The communicacion works because :
The Homeseer button "power off" or "stand by" work.
The Homeseer button for changing input chanel work (Tuner -> SAT or SAT -> Tuner for example).
The funcion inputStatusAVR() return the good value.
Log : 15/11/2010 20:05:07 DenonAVR Info DenonAVR user function InputStatusAVR()....Returned: SAT
But the overs funcions returned nothing...

Problems with com on latest Denon adapter

I just installed the latest Homeseer and the latest Denon adapter to control my Denon 3805 and it seems to control the power, but little else. Sometimes it will control the master input (DVD, Tuner, Aux,) but the volume controls only work sporadically.

I know that the environment works correctly because the Girder installation on the same machine controls the Denon correctly. ( i have made sure to run only one of these at a time so no com port contention) -- I would rather run the Homeseer adapter than the Girder, so please help me debug this....

I am running Win 7 on a laptop (with one serial port)

I also note that during the installation, the logs complain that the setup is using deprecated commands..

It does not display status of any of the denon "devices"

I have a similar problem I noted in this post. Unfortunately, I think the plugin owner may be away this week, since I haven't seen any responses in recent days. I would really like this plugin to work, even if it's not perfect! If the devices don't work at all, though, I may have to ask for my money back.

Are all of you using the Comm (Serial Port) ? I am using the IP communications without issues...

So maybe I need to separate into different versions, one for Serial and one for IP...

Reliable IP required threading and queuing of commands, and responses are queued and processed on receipt, but the comm ports use an event raising scheme to receive status from Denon, which does not seem to queue, as subsequent commands seem to terminate previous responses.

The only reliable way with Denon serial is to send command, and WAIT for response, which is slower. So to fix serial and not break IP, I will have to separate the functions for sending and receiving, error checking and displaying results.

While I don't mind writing a serial only version, it will take time. Meanwhile I suggest you revert back to a version that worked OK for you during your evaluation of product.

I was able to reproduce a couple of errors that were reported...and I am working on solutions.

The serial port side of things is still problem prone, but I am still working it.

Made some headway today with serial side of plug-in and found a couple status problems that I have corrected.

I want to continue testing before posting anything. I have been using the serial port for comm and while it does work now, it is a little slower response updating status.

I also want to check IP side and make sure I didn't break anything.

Hopefully soon, I can post a new version, to address all your issues.
