James, I have a concern. Currently Aim using the elk800 (cheap small amp board) for driving my speakers. But the problem that aim encountering is when you get close to the speaker you can hear a hissing sound coming from them, and when it very quite at home its very annoying. The reason for the noise is because of the amp board being always on. My question to you is, will the ESS be always on waiting for any announcement, or will its status be off until an announcement is made?

The ess plugin isn't exactly controlling announcements the way it is coded right now. It is easy enough for you to do what you want using the combination of HS and the jvESS in that you could create an event that executes the actions (if a plugin) or script commands that
1. jvESS - turn on modules (attached to speakers)
2. jvESS - Adjust them to desired volume
3. HS - speak announcement
4. jvESS - turn off modules
Since those speaker modules would not be on there shouldn't be a hiss.
Of course, it would be easy for me to create a jvESS_Speak command which would do all of that, if you think that is needed.
What I would like is to get the basic functions actually be used and then add the more sophisticated features as we move along. My experience has been that as people actually start using the plugin the features they want sometimes change drastically.James

Hello James
I wanted to ask you a question. Are we able to use X10 commands to control vol. directly or would we have to create some kind of script for that? I was thinking in using a palmpad for rising and lowering vol., also to turn on and off zones.Hector
