Im not familiar with that model, but they seem to be pretty standard, ie
      2 line VFD
      ESC/POS emulation
      serial

There are variations, for instance using a parallel port.

I have two, the second is a little annoying in that the bottom of Capital letters start one pixel lower than the lower case letters

I think IBM 4683 refers to a complete system, you only want the pole I think

I'm hopeless at filling in these sorts of things. It's home@rustie.fsnet.co.uk

I have won the item on ebay and awaiting delivery. I find myself studying them when I go to the supermarket and getting strange looks from people. Did I notice a standard rs232 plug on the one in Asda?!

No, but nearly. Now I wish that I had - the problem was there was a copper in the next lane buying his pastie, rather spoilt the fun.

Anyway, it's arrived and I need your help mate please! Firstly I've no idea what the socket type is that's on it (it's like someone has crossed a cat 5 with a modem socket).

Secondly, I've even less idea as to what wires would be for what if I had the right plug anyway - any ideas please? - or next trip to Asda will be with the screwdriver.

There appear to be four contacts.

Can you post the model details of your pole?

Thats the trouble with coppers, never there when you need one, and always there when you don't.

This is it - I've found some details.

                        Spec

Still don't know where I can get a plug from. Does it look as though it will work with your script Kevin? Which pins on the rs232 do I wire to?

I have looked at the link you gave above.
                          The significant bit is
                          <BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> Electrical Characteristics

Operating voltage: 11.4 to 13.2 Vdc (8.4 watts maximum)
                          Data interface: EIA-485
Data transfer: IBM protocol (187.5 kilobaud, 12-bit serial dot data)
                          Interconnection: Molex 15-83-0304
                          <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

where it says Data interface EIA-485, which is RS-485, which is unfortumately not RS-232. To even think about using this you would need an RS-485 interface card which from memeory are not cheap.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings

Hello there Kev - well it's me here again. I now have a new POS - a PD1100. I have downloaded and installed all your scripts - I can't get the thing to do anything.

Any chance you can help me? I have attached the spec doc from the web - it is the 'thru' version.

                            Thanks mate.
