CNN Breaking News Alert

I have not heard any CNN news alerts lately, so I checked my logs in the CNN config file an here are my last two entry's

8/10/2004 3:18:59 PM=The woman who accused basketball star Kobe Bryant of rape has filed a civil suit against him. Details soon
8/11/2004 12:58:58 PM=Kobe Bryant prosecutor asks for delay in tr

is this correct or is the script not working correctly, it does not fail when it runs.

Me too, I haven't had an alert in weeks. Thought I'd of got a million during the elections.

I asked this exact same question the day before the BB was moved but now I can find the thread. It must not have made it over. Dan stated that they reorganized the site for election coverage and it should be back to normal soon. Almost a week later and it's still broken. I wish we could find a good XML feed for breaking news.

It looks like our breaking news scripts are going toneed an overhaul. I just received a breaking news email and it's on the site but the script no longer picks it up

Actually, CNN moved it to a hidden file, so screen scrapers won't pick it up anymore. Took me a while to figure out where it was hiding as the breaking news alerts kept disappearing, but here is the fix:

change the page variable in the CNN script from "/index.html" to "/.element/ssi/www/breaking_news/1.1/banner.exclude.html" and it will work again, I copied the html code from the latest breaking news alert into the test routine, and it worked fine.

I haven't been getting them emailed to me either

My last breaking news alert email was 10/30 reporting Arafat had leukemia. I can't imaging they haven't sent out anything since then. I did the script change, we'll just have to see.

Their whole setup has changed

Looks like anyone who was getting alerts emailed needs to sign up once again. They now have you sign up for customized alerts as well as any breaking news. It did not recognize my email address so I signed up again. Here is the URL:

I setup cnn alerts so long ago I can't remember - do I need to have a CNN breaking news subscription for this script to work? I thought it was "just" a webpage screen scrape?

Mine too stopped working but can't remember when the last one or message that came through. Just remember haven't seen anything new in a "while".

Changed the script last night so, we'll see!
