    Fungun,

I guess I neglected to actually state how you activate this.

This goes in the AIM2HS Setup -> Custom Commands - > Advanced tab.

It will run automatically when an incoming IM is received, although it should filter out and ignore anything that's not a valid command for this script.

If you ran it manually, it crashed because there was no incoming Instant Message. It was trying to parse out the buddy name and the message, but the string was empty.

I suppose I could add some error checking in that area. (And maybe add explicit instructions for how to install it... Doh!)

FYI - the IMFREE devices require a 'Shift' entry prior to entering a number. (Like Shift - Q is the #1, I think). The script lets you ignore the shift and just press the letter that corresponds to the menu # you want. If you look at the IMFREE keypad you'll see what I mean.

The script doesn't care if you are using an IMFREE device, it works fine also from a standard IM window.

Thanks for at least trying to install this. I tried to make it generic and portable to other people's systems, but my testing could only go so far.

Note also that it only works for ADMIN level buddynames as defined in AIM2HS setup.

One thing I realized that I have to add - is the ability for it to ignore non-controllable devices. If you have virtual devices, or device flags configured in HS, it thinks you can control them like a light switch. I'm still working on that logic.

    Regards,

    Steve C.

Also - something else I'll add to the doc -

To activate it type "menu" or "m" in AOL instant messenger.

LOL - that's the absolute last response I expected to hear.

It actually works? I'm pretty shocked. I'm a newb at this.

I'm still tweaking it so please:
          a) let me know if this is actually useful
          b) is there something else it should do

One thing I did try to do and it didn't work. Instead of pressing 1,enter, 9,enter, 7,enter, 1,enter to turn on my desk lamp, I tried to do this-1,9,7,1-all in one message instead of the 4 messages it took to turn the lamp on.
Now that would be cool. Of course you would have to remember which numbers were to which light. Then it could do this-
            desk lamp-1,9,7,1 =on
            1,9,7,2 =off
            Hall Light-1,5,4,1 =on
            1,5,4,2 =off
            ect,ect
            thanx
