    CID is driving me nuts!

Can someone answer a simple question for me about CID and the way it comes over the line!?

My phone company doesn't use 'Private' or 'Out of Area' for blocked calls. It uses, 'Unknown Caller' and 'Blocked Call'. The question is how does this info come over the line? Does it come over as the text, or as a code? Also, where does it show up, in the number or name info? I am write some automated CID scripts and the blocked calls are all I have left to figure out!

    Thanks for any hep!!

    Peace,

    -Chris

    Chris,

If you look at the hsphone.log file (or even modem.log) then you can get the CID information. If the hsphone.log file does not show the RAW CID information, I know that modem.log does. If the phone company is doing it correctly, then the name is not as important as the number being an O for Out-of-Area and P for Private or Blocked calls. If you find otherwise, please let us know as we will have to adjust HSPhone to accomodate this.

Actually it happens to me as well. I don't get any "Out Of Area" call but instead just an "O". Same for Private, just a "P".

Here's some entries from hsphone.log for handling "Out of Area" call:

      26-Apr-2003 1:57:40 PM: Line ringing (line 1), count: 1 ForceAnswer: 0 Normrings: 6 ...
26-Apr-2003 1:57:40 PM: Notifying HS of event type: 1 DTMF:
26-Apr-2003 1:57:40 PM: Notifying HS of event type: 0 DTMF:
      26-Apr-2003 1:57:41 PM: Caller ID Number: 14167239293
      26-Apr-2003 1:57:41 PM: Caller ID Name: O
26-Apr-2003 1:57:41 PM: Handling caller ID
26-Apr-2003 1:57:41 PM: Searching for a match on CID. CID Num is: 14167239293 ...
26-Apr-2003 1:57:41 PM: So far, no match, call has CID, but is not private or out-of-area, using default handling ...
26-Apr-2003 1:57:41 PM: HSP is not set to popup caller info
26-Apr-2003 1:57:41 PM: Announcing call: Incoming call from out of area
26-Apr-2003 1:57:41 PM: Notifying HS of CID available
26-Apr-2003 1:57:41 PM: Notifying HS of event type: 2 DTMF:
26-Apr-2003 1:57:45 PM: Announcing call: Incoming call from out of area

In the HSP phone book, I put the announcement for Out of Area to "Incoming call from out of area". However, the name part doesn't seem to change from "O" to "Out of Area".

      Thanks,

      Simon

        Simon,

Your's looks truely screwed up. You get a number AND a 'Out of Area' code!? That is very strange, at least I think so. I thought that you got a number OR a 'Private' or 'Out of Area', not both. If the number is OOA, then there shouldn't any number at all.

That does remind me, can anyone tell me what exactly is the logic that HSP uses to figure out that it is Private and OOA? Where does it look? Just it just look for the O or the P in the number field, or does it look at either field to make sure? I was looking at my logs and my phone company puts the code in both fields.

I get calls from England that show up with a number and as out of area. but it usualy shows up as O or OU. And does not anounce anything just rings the phones. USA out of area calls show up correctly and anounce as out of area.
