I believe there are two approaches for Carrier/Bryant. One is to tap into the RS-485 and use the decoding that was reverse engineered in the Infinitude project. The second, is the sponsored one by Carrier that gets the data from the Carrier server. The first does not have a dependence on the internet but is based upon observing digital waveforms in response to control actions to develop an assumed API. The second depends upon the internet but does use an API published by Carrier. I would expect the second to be very stable.
