Update SEL to latest mono

I thought that the Lab to backup events would work.

What is the Mono version that you have installed on the original?

Thinking Rich mentioned something about needing mono version 4.X and above for current version of Homeseer 3 (.368).

Restored my original SEL Linux OS. See attached screenshot. Mono is 3.2.8. I am running .368 and it seems to be running fine.

Yeah; I do not recall which specific version of Homeseer 3 update notes that Rich mentioned the update to Mono 4.X. I am sure though it was mentioned and I updated another user (with less events) to version 5.X.

How are you backing up your SEL?

Another thing I noticed is that the SEL runs Ubuntu 14.04 (old now) in 32 bit mode rather than 64 bit mode. Here way long time ago started with HS3 Pro running in Ubuntu 14.04 in 64 bit mode then upgraded to Ubuntu 16.04 in 64bit mode.

Sorry, it wasn't clear, I usually do a factory restore from built in image. Quickest way I know. Usually I can reinstall Linux and my backup Homeseer directory within 30 minutes.

Would love to get my SEL into 64 bit mode. How can we do that? I have had the occasional Linux crash in the past with no apparent issue in the HS3 logs.

Updating the SEL to 64bit mode would be just creating a USB install Ubuntu stick. You would not be able to do a factory install from the built in image. How much memory does the SEL have. Optimally the more memory you have the faster Ubuntu will run.

So if I plug in the USB install Ubuntu stick, and bootup the SEL, it will then pick-up the 64bit install automatically? In other words, can the SEL boot from a USB?

What version of Mono would it install?

8Gb is good.

You can boot up in a live version or do an install via a USB stick.

I would just purchase a 32Gb SSD, keep the SSD that you have and install it new on another SSD. Relating to Mono you will need to install the old 3.0.28 version to keep your stuff or install the current mono and redo your events.

Here in the early days of the Homeseer 3 Zee I updated mono and redid all of my events. I initially started with Homeseer 3 Pro on Windows and switched to Ubuntu Linux in the first days of Homeseer 3 Pro.

You can too once you have built the SSD is imaging it such that you have a DR recovery option. This would be a snapshot of a running configuration rather and a new starting build.

One of my two testing HS3 Lite machines is using a 32Gb SSD drive. It is easy to remove and plug in to one of those USB to SSD devices.

Thanks Pete. I like the idea of a second SSD drive to build a new 64 bit Ubuntu on. It'll allow me to play around with Mono and my HS3 events as well. A new project for me ...

Here purchased my little cube PC (Xi5a) with a 32Gb W7 Pro SSD. I wanted to run Linux so purchased a 32 Gb SSD. The Pine64 2 Gb machine is running off a micro SD card.

I still prefer an SSD over a microSD. The bigger machine running Homeseer 3 Pro is using a .m2 SSD which is the size of my thumbnail.

Homeseer 3 in Linux is just a directory whether it is on a 32bit Linux OS or 64bit Linux OS. I do see that the 64bit Linux OS is using a 64bit Mono.
