Pet Door Automation

Has anyone seen or built a pet door that you can control from Homeseer? I have cats that I would like to allow out of the house at sunrise and then lock it back by sunset. Doesn't have to detect each cat but that would be a bonus to know who is going in and out.

I've not seen it done without a smart door of some type. One of these should work:

I just use a small solenoid, behind a z-wave module, that blocks the door for the way out
