  • Support for XP sp1 + 2 no longer available.

Had a crash on one of my older computers a couple of days ago and after trying to repair the startup gave up and re-installed XP Pro from my OEM disk. All went well untill I realised there were no updates comming through.

Searched the Microsoft website and eventually found there annoucement that support and automatic upgrades for SP1 and SP2 are now discontinued.

Suttle way to force you to either buy anouther XP Pro disk with sp3 or go for Win7 me thinks.

Just Google Service Pack 1 and Service Pack 2. You will find serveral sites where you can still download them. I was able to rebuild my old XP machine just a few weeks ago. It was painful, but XP it is now fully functioning again.

I did the same a few months ago. It was a pain but I did find the files, actually on the MS site with some digging. I think I saved them for future.

See this for making a DVD with SP3 and your set. This is what we did at work so it's a simple job to rebuild.

Gordon, the OEM NLite custom disk for the Foxconn I sent you has its roots in an original SP1 XP disk; then I added legacy drivers and SP2 and SP3 to it. Not sure anymore but thought I sent you original OEM with SP1 disk and the custom disk that I built using nlite.
