  • Removing serial devices without devices installed

Ok so ill give you a heads up on my screw up then we can go from there.. hah..

and question is WAY down hahahaha..

so i jumped on ebay and bought a digiport 416 db9. It came in but did not come with a power adapter. I plugged it into my gaming rig, added a power adapter. Loaded drivers and had 16 serial ports... woooot.. but there was a humming coming from the device. I had a universal power plug in the drawer so I set the volts and tried it. Still humming so I notified them and said i would send it back. They said no and sent me another. I got it and plug the universal plug in and that one worked. It installed drivers and now i had 16 serial ports. Not noticing my serial ports are now up in the 30's!!!!! anyway I plugged it into my server and installed drivers and I had 16 serial ports. Removed it and put away for now but drivers are installed.

so that was a few weeks ago. I plugged it back in and not getting any ports. Tried few things and nothing. Swapped it with the humming unit and nothing...

so long story short I think they both died. my luck I know.

so I connected everything back to my digiport/4 but noticed my serial port numbers now are
    35, 36, 37, 38
    35 - Concord 4 - works
    36 - zToller - works
37 - W800 - cant get to work with BLRF
    38 - ti103 - works

so I cant get blrf to work with com 37 or 38 only 2 i tried. Tried com1 and it works just fine.

disclaimer - not complaining about blades plugin if by chance it is my high port numbers. I dont think he should expect someone to have 30-40 ports!!!!!

    so it gets better...
I added a 4 port serial card by SII, loaded drivers and it works... well ports 39 - 42.

I can get the ti103 to work on them but not the w800 through blade....

so finally my question. How does one remove all the old serial devices without OS reinstall?
If I choose show hidden devices in device manager a 16 port unit shows....

do I only have to right click and uninstall all, remove drivers?

Do you have an option in device manager labelled multi port serial adapters? I have one as well as eight other ports, if I remove the multi port it will then remove the eight devices although mine is a different make/model.

Yeah you should be able to remove the 16 port device w/o worry about the drivers. Restart the computer after that to free up the com ports as they may not be released.

Then you should be able to assign the com ports you want for the existing serial ports under Advanced.

FYI I am using BLRF on port 31 for many months. No issues.
