Windows 7 Downloads Hang - Solved!

i've had this problem for quite a while. Downloads intermittently hang when using either Chrome or IE. I found this solution and it worked for me:

On a whim I tried disabling windows 7 tcp auto tune.

    Procedure:
    1. To do this open an elevated command prompt by right clicking command prompt and choosing run as administrator.
    2. then enter the following command: netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

Downloads are now completing as expected.

you can check the current status of the Receive Window Auto-tuning window setting by using this command: netsh interface tcp show global
I just tried this with a file I couldn't download today (after 3 attempts) and it worked like a charm!

    FYI

Thanks for posting this Mark! I've been experiencing periodic "hanging" in accessing some web-sites and disabling/re-enabling the network interface would cure it for a while. It was really annoying and I could not find a permanent resolution. I applied this fix a few days ago and it looks like this has resolved my issue as well.

    Cheers

It's funny... there are several Win 7 machines here at work and I have one at home too. The only PC with this problem was mine here at work. Obviously, there's something different about how it's configured.
