    Powermonitor 1000

I'm considering using Allen-Bradley Powermonitor 1000 on the incoming lines. the unit has Serial port - three-pin RS-485 connector with Modbus RTU capability.

Do we have a plug-in that will read this unit? Does anyone else have any experience with these units?

Do you have experience with sense? Also, it's "cloud based", right? I thought it was a relay interesting idea, but the more I look into it, the more I don't like. I am still keeping an eye on it though.

Also, I wonder how it differentiates between multiple of the same device. For instance we have multiple of the same TV model in our house, can it differentiate?

*This may not help the OP at all, you just mentioned the sense and threw that out there

I haven't studied the "Sense" device. I will take time this weekend to read it

I have one of the Aeotec Home Energy Meter Gen5 installed on a sub panel. It does a decent job and was simple to install.

I was looking for a better device l with a higher level of accuracy and features. I currently have two of these units in hand hated to see them go to waste.

The only stumbling point is reading the details thru Modbus and creating the children for HS3. This the post looking for pointers

My longer term effort will be to gather the data from the house and graph it's trends.

I've discovered in this forum there are a lot of creative individuals who test or try things not on the normal novice level. I read this forum pretty regularly to get a sneak peak at what ideas I can apply to the projects on my list.

I was able to cut my electric usage I half but identifying my biggest drains and automating their usage with Homeseer.
Half? Please educate me, I can see saving energy here and there, but 50%? WOW!

I thought the same thing, until I started looking into what was utilizing all of our electric.

In full transparency, we have a large and complex home. That said. When I started watching what was using our electric, I started playing with controls and events within homeseer.

For example, we have a koi fish pond in our backyard. I have I have a large pump that I used to let run 24/7 even in the winter to keep a relief hole for gasses to escape for the fish. There are also two filter pumps. Sense helped me see that I using 3500 kw to run those bad boys. I created an event that when the the outside temperature is below 32 degrees between November and April, the pumps only turn on twice an hour for 5 minutes.

So, in looking at loads and run times and I can fine tune my events for highest efficiency.

Thanks! We too live in a cold winter climate and used to have small ponds in another house. We are considering them again along with a hot tub, so I appreciate the quick reply.

FWIW, I have a 7.4kw solar system (fairly small house) but that's just a tad more than our average consumption so I don't have much wiggle room.

To the OP, have you looked at the MODBUS plug-in if you insist on going that route?

I’m looking at solar options this year
Off topic but, I love my system, we purchased rather than lease going on two years now. Check the financing options your state may offer since it's a massive federal and state tax credit for me in New York if purchasing. You don't get the tax credits if you lease.

It was a no-brainer for me with less than $2500 invested out of pocket.
