    Mozilla smart home?

    This looks interesting https://techcrunch.com/2018/02/06/mo...net-of-things/

    Mozilla Things Gateway

Yep looks like something is going on in an effort to consolidate the fragmented IOT device management.
I saw a PI that had a new Gateway utilizing the interface (With Z-wave support).
    http://hacks.mozilla.org

I also saw a Ardinuo board available as gateway called LoRaWAN.
    http://www.thethingsnetwork.org

Provides up to 10 km / 6 miles radius of network coverage
Connects easily to your WiFi or Ethernet connection
Bluetooth 4.2 modem for indoor IoT connections
Security through the https connection and embedded in the LoRaWAN protocol
XBEE slot for future connectivity protocols or homebrew add-ons.
Runs on open hardware and open software
Can serve thousands of nodes (depending on traffic)

I am sure someone in the Homeseer community is working on this stuff.

LoRa is a technology that is more fully developed in Europe than USA and is one that to my knowledge has not made it into HS. What I have seen are microchip (e.g. ESP8266/ESP32) managing the LoRa transceiver module with MQTT protocol for automation integration. I recently saw a YouTube review of a few of these by Andre Spies (guy with Swiss accent) where he pointed out some issues with the latest modules to hit the low end market.

LoRa fits nicely into the scheme of things with long distance low data rate communications. Thing of it as neighborhood-like range. Something like a remote mailbox open sensor or vehicle approaching sensor, microclimate sensor network may be some natural uses.

I am tinkering in this arena. Anything I do will be brought into HS via mcsMQTT plugin. While I see the Mozilla effort to be excellent, it seems to be more of a competitor than an adjunct to HS.
