Been going baby steps with this build. Last DIY build (think it is still here some place) was using an Asus mITX Haswell motherboard for Homeseer 3.
This is much different from using an RPi or Rock 64 which is much more plug n play. IE: just install OS and Homeseer and you are done. No hardware putting together.
I have had good luck with BCM boards over the years and currently using a few mITX BCM boards for a few servers.
This computer will be only as a home office desktop and running Linux / Windows. It will be a base office desktop and tinkering machine.

- Tested motherboard today with two 4 Gb DDR3 Dual Channel 1600 sticks MHz and one 120Gb 2.5" drive - spares - open not mounted in case.
- Installed two partitions - Plan here is to image 120Gb drive to SSD drive.
A - Partition A - Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
B - Partition B - Ubuntu 16.04 - 64 bit
- Ordered two 8 Gb DDR3 Dual Channel 1600 Mhz sticks.
16-17th of May, 2018
- installed Micro ATX board in a Media server case which is smaller than a Cube but larger than an SFF case.
- case has two 5.25 slots and one 3.5" drive slot, one 3.5" internal drive slot.

Baby steps here.
Updated RAM to 32 Gb - 4 DDR3 8 Gb sticks
Updated two drives to using a hot swap 2.5" Patriot cage. (2 SATA connections and 1 power connection)
30th of May, 2018
Added an Intel Quad Gb Network card and tested it to work in Windows and Linux (6 total for VB testing).
Looking for a parallel printer ribbon cable for my old Thermal Dye Sublimation Digital Photo Printer which I still utilize occassionally.

No luck yet on the proprietary parallel printer ribbon cable. Shifted a bit to working on the new PFSense box...and getting the Intel PCiE quad NIC to work....motherboard / bios sees card but that is all I get from it...using a two port HP Gb card (Intel) it works fine...

Started endeavor using a dual boot 500 Gb SATA notebook drive in a dual slot 3.5" hot swap cage facing the front of the computer. Yesterday transferred the OS with the dual boot to a Samsung 500Gb SSD drive using a Clonzilla live boot ISO. Very impressive as earlier I had tried a partition by partition copy in Linux and Windows and this did not work. Connected 3 monitors to concation using two display port to HDMI cables and one DVI cable. Works well in Windows 10 and Ubuntu 18.04.
