not quite sure what you mean by your cable/internet provider uses....

comcast aka xfinity has their own.. but i use my own and nothing to do with them...

if you go with a provider to monitor your alarm, most likely they wont let you in it unless you use a company like next alarm where you setup your stuff and they just monitor...

I live in a small town in a fairly rural area. The local Telco co-op is a swiss army knife of digital services, including telephone, streaming content, Internet, cable, and security systems. They have been bombarding me with flyers generally describing their security system installation, services, and maintenance. If I can determine that HS will not interface with their hardware, I can determine whether to kick that porcupine, also known as their sales department.

        gotcha...

i still say... kick them aside!!!!!
you can do your own without any monthly fees, etc... I had ADT when i first moved into my house. well actually we went on vaca but before we did, my wife said.. this house has an alarm from adt, call them and get it setup just in case... happy wife, happy life.. so I did.
        they came out..
        $36.99/m for their service... BUT..
oooh you have a nice system. Every door/window downstairs. The previous owners must of had a mishap but most likely in their last house... so you should insure them as they are not cheap and we will come out and replace the batteries for free which are not cheap.

well i locked into a 2y @ $58.99/m bill that sucked.. devices didnt die, batteries that were already 12y old were fine... and as soon as 2y came up, i found out that a concord 4 alarm will interface all my wireless sensors and boom.... done.. no longer have them and i monitor my own alarm with emails, etc...

Well, I'd almost rather do my own, anyway. Is there a preferred manufacturer, panel, or PI?

if you look at the security forums, you can get a list from that...

personally, when I move, I may go to DSC (think that is it, i always mix the letters up) as that is a native HS plugin.
I use the Concord 4 plugin and like it but it relies on forum members to have to time to work on it. They have been great, but currently in HS4, I am having an issue and no one is responding... at least with that one, you know you have HST to work on it...

I took over an old DSC 1555MX that's over 10 years old that works nicely with HS3 via a EVL-4 interface card ($~100) and spud's EnvisalinkDSC plugin ($40). I went that route because I already had two Ademco Vista20p panels with EVL-4's and spud's EnvisalinkAdemco plugin, and was satisified with spud's plugins. The Homseer DSC plugin may work well, too, but I'm not familiar with it. There's also a way to connect directly to your HS server via USB and a different plugin, but I don't know anything more about it. DSC and Ademco panels can be purchased for relatively low cost, but plan to spend a bit of time learning to program them. Plenty of guides online.

Edit: DSC serial interface available via Blade's BLDSC plugin.
