    Anybody familiar with these

Anybody use these, or something similar? I want to put one on each furnace to check and see when the fan is running (will wire to my HomeVision imputs). Seems like there would be other applications as well.

    Mark,
There is actaully a better option than the one you posted. It's a split magnet that makes it much easier to put on the power cord and yes these do work well. It sometimes takes a couple of wraps to get enough signal out of them though.

Or this one and you don't even have to do any fancy wiring. It has a relay already built in.

        Mark,

I think I have around 4 of them, mostly used to determine if A/V gear is on, so that I can send the Power IR command correctly for example.

I ended up building each one of them into an extension cord, so I wouldn't have to fiddle with the cord that came with the unit I was trying to monitor.

There may be better options for you in terms of installation, but as far as how they work, couldn't be better. Have had most of them in for a couple of years, and not one hitch, ever.

Btw, I've got them wired into a Secu-16.

          YOYO,
Do you have the entire extension cord ran through the magnet of just one of the wires?

            Rupp,

Just one of the wires. They are made of the heavier zip cord, so I split the wires, cut one of them, slipped it through the magnet (no looping necessary), then resoldered it together and used some HD heat shrink over the connection.
