I've also grown desperate and started going down this path. It will not be pretty and definitely not a quality plugin, since I have no idea how to automate all of the authentication steps.
I've been able to get python to talk with the Nest as described in that, and I've been able to make HS send parameters to python, but that's it. Not sure if I will continue, buy a different thermostat, or using a 3rd party way of doing this.
