    Which Amplifier to buy

    Hello all ,

I have a Yamaha RX830 Amplifier , but it is half dead , most of the times it functions normall , sometimes it doesn't want to turn on , reluctant to send it in for repair , since the fault appears ( somewhere in the power - on. standby area) very irregular.

Anyway , I am planning to buy a new Amplifier , but no idea what. Important for me , it is controllable via Homeseer , or preferably Harmony.

-I only use the Amplifier for watching TV, occasionally a movie via my Laptop (HDMI) , so 2 HDMI inputs is good enough , and 1 HDMI output to the TV.
    - 2x Bose 301 surround front
    - 2x Bose 301 surround rear.
    - center speaker Boston 225C
    - 2x Yamaha YST-SW216 Subwoofer. ( I like my floor to vibrate when there is a good Scifi - action movie)

Anyone who has an idea what is good for dolby surround watching movies and the amplifier can be controlled with Homeseer - Harmony.

    Many thanks,
    Cor

I am using an old now Pioneer VSX with 7.1 surround sound and a mix of speakers....

Typically have seen Pioneer MM heavily discounted.

It is controllable via HS but never use the HS control on it. Just switched over to a combo RF / IR remote called an Air Mouse. I do not really like it that much.

I only utilize the multimedia receiver for the DTV VCR HDMI and the Kodi Box HDMI outputs with CEC. Have disconnected the Blue Ray player and the built in TV Roku stuff.

I would say that the KODI box is more like an STB with OTA video, streaming services, streaming from NAS movies (many 4K now).

I was having a bit of an issue with NAS to LAN to any box Gb throughput. Adjusted the NAS and KODI box and now see between 115-120 Mbs transfer speeds.

Depending on your needs, you may want to keep an eye out for the Alexa-ready units, since Harmony bit the dust.

@ Pete . I will look at the pioneers as well , but the price range is almost double as the Yamaha , and I thought that was already a bit on the expensive side .

@ ewkearns: I have read the topics about Harmony , very disappointing , but how I read it , the remotes are discontinued , not the hubs . Nevertheless I would like to control the new amplifier also via network for example the mediacontroller plugin.

        Thanks,
        Cor

Here looking at USPS shipping costs from Chicago to Austria up to around 30 Lbs...gets expensive but typically under $200 USD....there are many different used or refurbished MM recievers here on Ebay with free shipping (to Chicago)...

I've shipped computers to the UK and it used to be cheaper...recently it was under $100...used to be under $30 a few years back...

Fedex interline shipping used to be very cheap....currently is is around 75 % discounted ...domestic or international...

              +1

I use a Denon receiver and the BLDenon plug-in - it makes HS3/HS4 integration easy. I can use HSTouch as my remote or have Alexa as a front end for many of the functions using routines & events.
