    Broken Instant Status

I have two Leviton DZ15S-1BZ light switches, and they support Instant Status, which was working fine up until recently.

I was playing with associations, so I added each switch to the other using Z-Wave associations. It didn't seem to work though, so I deleted the association for each of them, leaving only the Group 1 Homeseer association.

After that it seems my light switches no longer update Homeseer of their status. I'm not sure if they were working properly immediately before playing with the associations or not, but they definately don't work since then.

Also under associations, I only see Group 1 now, where I could have sworn there used to be 4 or 5 groups. Also, when I search old posts, I see mention of an Endpoint, but I don't have that option.

I tried doing a rescan, thinking that might fix the issue, but it did nothing. Any ideas?

According to the documentation I found from Leviton, these devices only support Group 1, which should be only associated with the controller (Homeseer).

I would rescan and re-set the association to Homeseer.

Well that's what I get for playing around before reading the documentation! K I will delete the homeseer association, do a rescan, then reset the association.

My last suggestion: You can re-include the device without messing up any Events or other automation you may have done around those devices.
          1. Goto the switch and do a physical reset to factory (look in the Leviton docs on how to do that).
          2. Goto the Z-wave tab for that device in Homeseer and push the "Test Connectivity" button. It should fail.
          3. On the same tab, push the "Replace Node" button. Once you do that you need to start the include process on the physical switch (again, check Leviton docs).
          4. After successful, the switch will be re-added "fresh" but the node reference numbers will remain the same (and hence all of your events and scripts will still work).

          Hope this helps.

That is a huge help, not just for this issue, but in general. I only just noticed the "Replace Node" button and I was wondering if it would work to be used like that. I didn't want to reinclude anything and break events doing so. Thank you very much for this!

You're welcome, the only caveat is that you have to do it in the order specified or things might go haywire.

With the switches Leviton DZ15S-1BZ and the dimmer Leviton DZ6HD-1BZ there is a known issue with firmware before 1.20

So if you dont have firmware 1.20, that could be the issue

I used zflash and homeseer usb zwave+ key. The 1.20 leviton firmware comes with zflash

Hey thanks for the tip. Both lights are running firmware 1.20.

Just installed two of these (DZ6HD). Not getting status updates and I am running firmware 1.20 on them. I've seen in other posts that HS4 needs to support a "hail" command that it doesn't. Not sure how to take this farther other than asking HS support if this is true...

The Hail command existed when companies didn't want to pay Lutron for the instant status licensing fee, but eventually Leviton and Cooper did. Many of these devices used Group Association 255 to implement Hail, but subsequent firmware updates (because of the license) eliminated the need for the Hail.

Below is what happens when I retrieve the Associations from my older Cooper Aspire dimmers that support instant status, notice that Group 255 is listed, but you don't want to use it. Usually all that is required for instant status (for devices that support it) is the Group 1 association to Homerseer.

What associations do your DZ6HDs list?

Interesting on the Hail command history.

Here's what my associations looks like on both switches:

When you pull down the Association Group list (like I show in my screen cap), what Groups are listed? Is it just Group 1?

The reason I ask is that if Group 255 (the Hail group) is listed and you are presently not getting instant status, then add the Group 255 association to Homeseer to see if that helps.

                            I don't see a group 255 in the list:

Then the Hail command is not supported on that device. As a matter of fact, I just looked up these devices... they are Z-wave Plus. Then they never would have used Hail, they are modern Z-wave devices fully licensed for Instant Status. But apparently there was an issue when they were initially released and instant status was not working, firmware 1.20 solves this.

Did you flash these to 1.20 after you included them into HS? If so, then exclude them, do a factory reset on the dimmer, then re-include it.

If none of the above applies then you should open a ticket with HST support, these devices should be reporting instant status as per the DZ6HD manual.
