Here you go, you want a ZigBee thermostat. Low-cost, will integrate into Homeseer easily. Will go down to 41F (5C) setpoint.

I control a greenhouse temperature with WiFi smartplug that has Tasmota firmware with a rule to control on / off based upon setpoint with a hysteresis to prevent cycling. Sonoff S31 handles 16 amps and reports energy so I can see what it actually costs to run the greenhouse.

Similar rule for exhaust fan for cooling on sunny days

My Honeywell ZWave (in the house) thermostat is regularly set to 5 degrees Celcius to keep the furnace off. The only reason I don't use a thermostat in the garage is that, in order to avoid switching 110 Volts in the thermostat itself, I would need a small relay driven by the thermostat (and an external low voltage supply) to drive the larger 110Volt relay which in turn switches the 20Amp heater. I haven't had such a failure of HS as you're concerned about in several years now. In any case, it would be easy to install a manual freeze protection thermostat if necessary (as I do have on my propane furnace in parallel with the controlled ZWave thermostat).

I suspect the amount of energy used. Huge difference in costs between maintaining something at 50F versus 35 - 40F (just above freezing).

    Garage Heater

Lookinf for a thermostat to control my garage heater. It needs to have a heat setpoint as low as 35-40 degrees. I bought the Trane thermostat from Homeseer, but it's heat setpoint won't go any lower than 55 degrees. I don't need the garage that warm most of the time. Can anyone suggest a cheap thermostat or way to control my heater? It doesn't need to be fancy and have schedules, etc. Just want to hold temp at about 40 degrees and be able to warm it up temporarily if I'm going to be out there.
    Thanks
Working...
