Does anyone have any experience and/or recommendations with LED strip lighting? We are having a three season porch built and are going to add led strip lighting behind some crown molding. About 80 feet. Want to be able to change the lighting and colors from homeseer. I have zwave and wifi is fine too as is zigbee (jowiehue). Thanks.

I have some Hue strip lights and some Dals indoor/outdoor strip lights from Home Depot. The Dals can only go 48', not sure about Hue. The Dals are wifi and work with the MagicHome app. The plug-in for MagicHome works well after tweaking some of the settings, but it can lose connection every now and then. I would recommend mounting the strip lights in a channel with a diffuser. It gives a more even appearance rather than dots of light.

I'll just mention that some of the "bottom feeder" cheap brands of light strips sold on Amazon or Ali Express are "you get what you pay for": I have purchased several from the "Govee" brand. They initially connect via WiFi (after much effort and retries), but after some time period (less than a month in one case, and more than six months but less than a year in the other case), the WiFi radio dies and can't be used. There are multiple user reports confirming this issue. So, given that your installation would be rather inconvenient to rip out and replace, Hue products are probably a better choice. Good luck!

Here spent time custom fitting sections of aluminum tracks for the LED strips. After custom cutting and joining the aluminum tracks installed the strips of LED lighting. I soldered the terminations rather than use clips. I custom built the controller using a Magic home board with Espurna. Working fine today after a year or so with no issues.
Most of time consuming pieces were cutting and fitting to size the aluminum tracks.- Pete

I'm looking for the same. I'm open to any technology as long as color changes can be made via homeseer.HS4Pro on a Raspberry Pi4

wpiman Have you looked into WLED? Or know of DrZZs on YouTube? I've been using their controllers and the WLED software for a while and they are really amazing. It's $30 for a single pre-assembled controller and then you can use the mcsMQTT plugin to control WLED from Homeseer. The plugin author of mcsMQTT has made it really easy to add these controllers to HS. HERE is a link to the page where you can learn about the controller and where to buy them pre-assembled (unless you are one that likes to build them yourself).HS4 4.2.6.0 &HSTouch Designer 3.0.80

We have several closets where we run LED strip lights along the inside edge which gives some good and even lightning. I have those connected up to a PCB I designed and controlled by an Arduino board using the Arduino plugin. This allows dimming, though no color control. The board has 8 channels so I guess you could use one channel for each color. I can share the design but it's still a bunch of work doing this (getting parts, soldering, wires, etc). The good think is that everything is hardwired.

I bought a couple of things off Amazon to try. The Hue brand was like $800 to get what I needed while the knock offs were like $80. Some even far less.
Are most of these LED strip lights compatible with this controller?
