Cable provider wants to change out my modem

My cable provider wants to change out my modem. My current modem is a few years old and is a Motorola "CyberSURFR". They want to install an "advanced DOCSIS" modem which can "deliver enhanced services and improved speeds".

Any have an ideas why they would be doing this? Any downside?

This proberly because they are going to docsis 1.1 or 2 even... Theres no downside and the service should be better afterwards.

      Jeff,
My cable company did this about 2 months ago and it was transparent to me other than my ipaddress changed for the first time in over a year.

Jeff, new modem = download and especially upload speed . Its a good thing, I exchange my modem every 2 years just to get the latest and greatest. My provider is cogeco in Burlington Ontario they allow me to just do the exchange myself.
