    Daycare - child sensor

I had a Daycare reach out to me to help them with an issue they are facing. Kids ability to go down a certain hall unnoticed. They are looking for a way to have an alarm go off if a child goes down this hallway. Only adults should be in this area.

My thought was 2 motion sensors one high and one low ( good ole tape to make it more of a narrow beam ) so if motion 1 goes off but not motion 2 then the siren sounds.

Then i thought if it would be possible to use a beam photo sensor like a driveway or garage door, faster response.

Looking for some ideas and products that might help me.

If only there was a height sensing motion sensor ( oh your under 4 feet tall ) siren))

It might be possible to use an ultrasonic detector system. I doubt there is an out-of-the-box solution, but it seems possible to distinguish the signature of an adult vs a small child when passing through an ultrasonic field. (Commercial systems are used to detect product (non)uniformity on production lines.)

As an example, see the data sheet for this device: https://www.migatron.com/rps-3000pvc-rps-4000/

I would use 2 photo sensors (low & high)

If only the low one is triggered then you have a child down the hallway.

if both are Triggered : Adult

If only the high one is triggered : Bird 😂

You can integrate via any dry contact device: door/window sensor
      Tasmota controller Etc.

If you wanna be a little more ambitious you can try this

The framing of the individuals allows you to not only determine the number, but their height.
This would keep crafty kids from being able to raise their arms up to fool the sensors.

I set this up in the past. It worked very well. I did not use it with my HomeSeer system but I think I will give it a try again.
