Zwave Door Sensor Aeotec Recessed Door Sensor 7 one year update

Just wanted to give a one year update (16 months) on the Zwave Door Sensor Aeotec Recessed Door Sensor 7. The device has worked very well with HS4 and continues to work. I would have thought the battery would have been depleted by now as the is the door we use most often and it's open and closed several times a day. I'm almost certain that the battery reporting is in error as it still shows 100% after a year but otherwise this hardware works well and is hidden which I like not having something stuck to the door frame. Mine is about 20 feet from my SmartStick and it never has missed a beat. I'm expecting the batteries to die any time but so far so good.

Ah, I installed one of those for our side gate but forgot to enroll it again. A few months ago I installed a lock (too many people just walking into the back and stealing stuff) so it kind of forgot about it. I have to check if the battery is still ok. Based on your comment it probably is. Btw, are you using the 700 series z-wave stick? It is my understanding that the low power mode is only active when both the device and the z-wave stick use the 700 series chip.

I didn't think about using these outside. Are they waterproof? I'm using a 5 year old 500 series SmartStick, It works so I leave it alone.

They are not meant to be used outside but other people use them outside successfully so I gave it a shot. Also in our area we hardly have any rain and since the sensor is inside wood there is no sun exposure, either.

Rupp You may want to check the configuration parameters for battery reporting. I have a couple of sensors that don't report battery status until they are below a threshold and that can be set with a Z-Wave parameter. The spec says 2 year battery life with < 20 activations per day.

I've also had good luck with battery powered ZWave devices but found out that some of them won't update the battery status unless they get polled. I put in an auto poll for them every 12 hours or so and getting reliable battery stats. But in general they are pretty thrifty in usage.

Rupp I just ordered one of these. I also have an older SmartStick. Could you please share if you included in secure mode or not?

I do not use secure mode on any Z-Wave inclusion unless the device requires it.

BTW, my battery died this week. Pulled it out of the door pulled the battery and put a new one in and it started back as expected.
