looking for a site outlining Linux installation and configuration

My son (grade 11) has a project that needs to research installation and configuration of "open" linux. Does anyone know a site that would help him out?

I assume he can pick any distribution (as far as I know, "open" linux is not a distribution)? If so, I would recommend Mandrake or Suse as they seem to be the most userfriendly out there. I would also recommend these 2 sites:

    http://www.linux.org/docs/beginner/install.html
    http://www.tldp.org/

If you need specific help, feel free to ask away!

Take a look at www.suse.co.uk their SUSE Linux 9.2 live will run from a dvd rom so no need to install on the machine, just burn it to a DVD.
February issue of PC PRO (UK version) has the ISO image on its cover DVD if its any help.
Try here for download and installation instructions http://www.novell.com/products/linux..._eval_int.html
One of my friends at work recomends Mandrake, he says its quite good.
      Hope this helps.
