Yup, it's mostly self help here. There are the occasions where a couple employees will chime in if something catches their eye or Rich will respond if you post to a beta topic on a piece of beta software he's posted. Other than that, just feed your fellow geeks every once in a while.

To your first point, no, HST employees do not officially monitor these forums. It used to state this on the front page, but I guess advertising took precedence. IMO, the forum is run pretty bad, there's so many simple changes that would preemptively answer many questions and solve so many problems.

To your second point, the email providers such as Gmail, Microsoft, etc, are constantly changing their technology, for example, about a year ago Gmail did not require app specific passwords. HST can't anticipate what every email provider is going to do and program this into their product. It's each user's responsibility to know what their particular email provider requires, after all there are literally hundreds of email providers. Not everyone uses Gmail.

started a topic Leak detector notification

    Leak detector notification

I just got my z wave leak detector up and running on my hometroller plus hub based system. The log shows the trigger event and the device status changes properly. I added an event and thought that email notification would be the simplest way to get notified of water present at the sensor. After 2 hours of two different email accounts (one gmail, one not) servers, ports, ssl, double checking passwords, ports 587/465, etc I keep getting errors in the log. Water detected and event launched but email failed to send. U/N and P/W not accepted, SSL., ... I dont care if i get a phone banner, text, email, letter, electric shock, bat signal, ... Can somebody help me get my water detector to "phone" home. Thanks,

    George
