Enable developer mode by going to settings->about and tapping on the serial number 8 times.

Then you can go into Settings->Developer and set it to never turn off the screen. I think this only works when plugged in. If you unplug the AC adapter, the screen will still timeout and turn off.

I thought it was tapping it 7 times but that is how it's done. And indeed, it must be plugged in for the screen to stay on. And when the screen stays on then you also won't see the ads if you have an ad supported Fire tablet (which is what I have). My Fire tablets are mounted to walls with frames from Makes by Mike. Not cheap for a 3D printed plastic frame but they work pretty well.

Probably is 7. I just keep tapping until it says I'm in developer mode.
