I have a tp-link "router" (Archer 3150) which has a built-in OpenVpn server. I use that to access HS through HSTouch. The OpenVPN app on my phone connects quickly but it takes forever to pull up anything on HSTouch. I am not quite sure where the problem is but I suspect it's the router. I am saying this because when I look at the connection stats on the OpenVPN app on my phone it shows very little communication. Further, even if I pull up the IP of the HS computer it takes forever. So it doesn't seem to be HS.
What are people using to connect to HS via VPN? Do you use a VPN server built into your home router? Or use a dedicated VPN device that sits between the WAN and router? Or some VPN software running on the HS computer?
And I assume services like ExpressVPN, NorthVPN, etc don't help with this because they route traffic through their servers so from a HS perspective, this is still all just external. I will still have to get those services, though because I want to access content from countries that don't allow the content to be consumed outside their country.
