    Cat5 with lan & DS18S20 ?

    Hi !

In a lan cables (cat5) pins 4,5,7,8 are not used from what i can see, could thos be used for DS18S20 temp sensors, without disturbing the lan performence ?

Has anyone tested this? , since i already have cat5 to moste rooms in the house, that would make it easyer to have all room Temp sensors as well

    Regards

    Morten,
The one wire bus is black magic to begin with so my suggestions would be to try it. It's easy enough to undo if it causes any problems and if you crimp the sensors into cat5 plugs it's as easy as plug and test. I believe if you tried to use several in this methods you may start to have one-wire errors but a few 5-10 shouldn't be a problem. Your going to probably get several different answers about it not working but I would just try it and see.

If you intend to upgrade to a 1 Gig Lan in the future - just remember that all 4 pairs in the CAT 5 cable are used.

Apart from that - as Rupp - try it!
