I had "method of object failed" failed error on startup. Tried repair HS in control panel, (from other threads) did not work. Almost did a complete reinstall, but the problem was my microphone was NO LONGER THE DEFAULT INPUT DEVICE!!!!!!!!! Believe it or not when I installed a new cable modem it affected the sound settings and change the default, motorala modem with Comcast as ISP provider. Once it was changed back to input device smoothe as silk. Hopefully this post will save someone else a lot of misery.
