    Multi-sourced audio distribution

Does anyone know if it possible to have multiple instances of WinAmp or Media Player running to seperate rooms without using multiple computers? I want to be able to listen to my music in any room I like while my roomate can listen to his in any room he would like, but still have homeseer speak to every room. My best guess as a start would to have a different sound card for each room + one for the homeseer which is hooked up to every room, but after this I don't know what to do. I see there have been multiple questions on how to have a "whole house audio system" but I haven't seen anything about separating the rooms. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes to WinAmp, but in WMP, there is no place to tell it which sound card to use, so that pretty much makes it a "no" for the time being.

Also, I know of somebody writing a plug-in for HomeSeer for WinAmp. It will support multiple instances, have web pages, and will even control WinAmp running on a remote computer if that is what you want to do.

      Thanks for responding Rick,
That new plugin is exactly what I'm looking for. Is there any word on when we'll see it?

J rivers MediaCenter supports multiple zones (different rooms) via different channels of a multichannel sound card.
with MusicLobby, you can select which zone you want to control.

          DavidL,
I'm having difficulty finding documentation on the Media Center. I have a 6 channel sound card, but only one physical output. Is this what you are talking about as a "multichannel sound card"? If so, how would I go about splitting these channels?

I'm very new to scripting and application integration, but am more than willing to learn. Is there a good place to look for documentation on how to integrate Homeseer with the Media Center, or any other applications without a plugin? Thanks.

Thanks for getting the word out about my plugin before I finish it. This lets me know that people will actually be interested in it. Trevor, I am the one developing the plugin to interface HS with multiple instances of Winamp. If you have any ideas for something I can add to the plugin, I would be more than happy to hear from you. So far I have support for up to 2 instances. I also have support to allow a user to run HS on one machine, and Winamp on another, and still control it via HS. You can do this with either/both instances. I have a full playlist view, and soon I will have a playlist editor. If there's anything anyone else would like me to add, please post and I will be happy to review and maybe add before the first release. Thanks again, Rick.

Trevor, as to we will see it as a first release, probably within a week or so. Just an estimate, no final dates.

Trevor, sorry for the delayed response, but must have missed your update.

Try this link for info on integrating MainLobby (MusicLobby option) with MediaCenter: http://www.caseserve.com/cinemar/php...forum.php?f=31

6 channel sound card gives 3 stereo zones. Output to 3 cheap old fashioned stereo receivers. Lots around nowadays at throw out prices with people upgrading to Theater multichannel receivers. Try to get the receivers that can control volume via IR as a backup to the sound card volume setting (I keep the reciever volume lower than what could blow the speakers if something inadvertantly cranked the PC volume up like some software does...)

I haven't looked, but there must be info on J Rivers website for both integration info and multizone setup: http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi

                  Hope this helps!

Edit: found a good site: http://home.powertech.no/mastiff/multizone.htm
