    2 audio zones

    Would it be an option for 2 audio zones (upstairs, downstairs, both) by using the left and right signals and controlling by using a script to change the balance on the PC ??

    Why not use 2 sound cards and switch between them?

      just wondering if you could do something like this.
      I will probably pick up a couple of cheap USB sound devices....

        Are you certain that multiple USB sound output devices are supported by the OS?

              I picked up a Creative USB soundcard last weekend and it sounds great! I love it because it has nice RCA inputs and outputs.

                hs.SetVolume 20,20

                By adjusting the two 20 values I think will play with volume and balance.

                  You could do that, but I would think it could get difficult to keep track of where the balance/volume was set last. The voice output of HomeSeer is mono, so you could use the left and right channels as separate zones.

                  You can also get an inexpensive relay from Radio Shack connected to an X-10 universal module (or is it the PowerFlash? I always get those two mixed up) and since relays have normally open and normally closed positions, you could set it up where one or the other are always on, but not both at the same time. Two relays and two modules though would give you the most flexibility and then you would not have to worry about the volume level settings.

                    Rick,

                    powerflash = contact monitor
                    universal module = control contacts/relays

                    Hope that helps

                      It does help at the moment, but with my feeble brain it is only a matter of time before I confuse them again... The problem is that I immediately moved into digital I/O controllers and never did use these devices much. Thanks.
