    HS Phone Line Lockup!

Has anyone else had HS Phone stop interacting and continue to hold the line? It doesn't ever seam to time-out until I force it via the HS GUI. It will do it on good sequences of events, even ones that just worked the last time I tried. For example, I had this log sequence:
11/22/2005 12:40:36 AM Info Done loading internal VR
    11/22/2005 12:40:36 AM HSPhone Line: Main Line Speak: C:\Program Files\HomeSeer 2\wave\help.wav
    11/22/2005 12:40:38 AM HSPhone StartListening
11/22/2005 12:40:41 AM HSPhone Heard: messages
11/22/2005 12:40:41 AM HSPhone Disable Listen

I called HS Phone internally, it gave the prompt and I then responded "messages" to get my messages. It put in the log file that it heard "messages" and then did nothing, silence. I hung up and it held the line. If I went to use my phone it was dead. No key sequence will unlock HS Phone from the phone at this point. This has to be fixed or HS Phone will not be usable. If this is not something obvious I'd like to have an HS technician respond.

    Here is another sequence:
11/22/2005 12:57:01 AM HSPhone Heard: messages
11/22/2005 12:57:01 AM HSPhone Disable Listen
11/22/2005 12:57:36 AM Napco Gemini Status event received: 192, 15, 5 (Attic Motion): Zone Opened.
    11/22/2005 12:57:36 AM HSPhone DTMF: 0
11/22/2005 12:57:43 AM Napco Gemini Status event received: 194, 0, 5 (Attic Motion): Zone Closed.
11/22/2005 12:57:46 AM Napco Gemini Status event received: 192, 15, 5 (Attic Motion): Zone Opened.
11/22/2005 12:57:49 AM Napco Gemini Status event received: 194, 0, 5 (Attic Motion): Zone Closed.
    11/22/2005 12:57:56 AM HSPhone Line: Main Line Speak: C:\Program Files\HomeSeer 2\wave\nomessage.wav

Note the time stamps. It hears "messages" at 12:57:01 and does nothing. Then I hit the 0 key on the phone at 12:57:36 to try and get it back to the main menu, but that did nothing. Then at 12:57:56 it decides to play my "no message" wav file, which did not actually play. Why did it wait 55 seconds to play the wav file? Why didn't I hear the wav file? Keep in mind that this same sequence works many times, then stops working. It often also detects phone hangup and relinquishes the line, but not always.

      Danielperez,

Take a look at the HS Phone Threads, this seems to be a on going problem with HS phone lockups, one build seems too fix it than a new build comes out then is back two square one again. HS is aware of the Problem, and I think they are getting close to fixing it.

        Daniel,

Your not alone. The last couple of builds do that same for me. If you monitor the CPU usage, it will spike at 100% when it goes "wacko" like this and holds your phone line hostage. If you watch the event log, you'll see HSP attempting to send voice/speech over the line, but you never hear it, etc. The only way I have out of the situation is to shut down HS2 and restart it.

Very annoying. Very buggy. Makes you almost want to not use it since it is much more important to have your phone line work 100%

I too have been having "issues" with HSPhone with the PCI modem V2 and currently have on on-going dialog with HS via the help desk to work through them.

One of the things I found that helps somewhat is to make sure software silence detection is turned off and to set the inactivity timeout to 1 minute (the default setting is "0"). This seems to consistantly release the line on external calls. The slight downside with this is there is always a 1 minute delay from the end of the recorded message so that phone is "busy" for 1 minute longer than it should be. The good news is that it does not appear to hang forever.

As they say "your mileage may vary"....

Yes, my symptoms are the same as described! The CPU goes to 100% on my homeseer machine and the threads for the phone app go to "running". The disabling "silence detection" and timeout did not help for an internal call, but that may be a "workaround" for an external call. I should not call that a "workaround" but a confirmation of a failure. It is not usable in this state.

This is so easy to debug from a software perspective that they must not be putting programming resources on the problem. It is totally repeatable, and the thread just goes into a loop, so all they have to do is put it in the debugger and break at the lockup. I know Windows threads are a pain, but anything this repeatable can be isolated. After Thanksgiving I'll have to put in a help desk request. I live in NH, so I can always offer to drop by for a debug session. :-)

Guys, I don't know if you noticed, but recently HST placed advanced IVR logging capability into HS. You'll find it on the phone setup page as "Log IVR script processing". They're asking that those who are encountering problems enable the logging to help them track down the source(s).

Yes, please enable the IVR logging and post a log snippet when it hangs. Also, is this with the Way2Call or PCI modem only? Please post your PC specs, especially if you have a hyperthreading processor. Hyperthreading issues should be fixed, but try turning this feature off.

There is nothing regarding "IVR script processing" or "IVR logging" on any of the pages that I can find. I went under "Setup:Phone:" and then my phone modem configuration. I did find "Modem Used: HomeSeer PCI Voice Modem V2 Detail Logging: YES" and this was already enabled. On the "Setup:General" I have those logs enabled as well. When I search my computer I came up with these logs:
                  1) HomeSeer.log - General logging plus IVR interactions.
                  2) Callers.log - caller ID
                  3) Installation logs. - installation

                  I am running "HomeSeer version 2.0.2003.0" on "Windows 2000, 5.00.2195" SP-4.
I have the latest version of MDAC, 2.7 something. So Win 2000 is completely up to date with patches and MDAC. Microsoft.NET Framework is 2.0.

My Homeseer computer is a Pentium (Family 6, model 5) with 128MB RAM. There is only one processor.

I am using the PCI Voice Modem, V2 (BD0300-001).

                        Danielperez,

I think is was only in higher test builds, I do know it is in 2014 under the phone -setting-Line setting.
