    Help. I need an X10 education ...

    Tonight I was attempting to get my Lightolier Fan Switch to work on the low setting. Martin suggested I try using a palm pad remote to see if that would work and sure enough it did. Now I need to understand why. The following are the codes from the ah.log when using the remote:

    These worked:
    <pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
    3/24/2004 9:52:04 PM~!~X10 Received~!~C1(LRFAN) C Bright 12
    3/24/2004 9:52:05 PM~!~X10 Received~!~ C Bright 1
    3/24/2004 9:52:11 PM~!~X10 Received~!~C (LRFAN) C Bright 12
    3/24/2004 9:52:12 PM~!~X10 Received~!~ C Bright 1
    3/24/2004 9:52:15 PM~!~X10 Received~!~C1 (LRFAN) C Bright 12
    3/24/2004 9:52:16 PM~!~X10 Received~!~ C Bright 1
    3/24/2004 9:52:18 PM~!~X10 Received~!~C1 (LRFAN) C Dim 12
    3/24/2004 9:52:19 PM~!~X10 Received~!~ C Dim 1
    3/24/2004 9:52:21 PM~!~X10 Received~!~C1 (LRFAN) C Dim 12
    3/24/2004 9:52:22 PM~!~X10 Received~!~ C Dim 1
    3/24/2004 9:52:25 PM~!~X10 Received~!~C1 (LRFAN) C Dim 12
    3/24/2004 9:52:25 PM~!~X10 Received~!~ C Dim 1

    </pre>

    These are the codes generated when using the dim command from the HomeSeer GUI. The dim to 50% and 100% (on) work. The dim to 10% does not.

    <pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
    3/24/2004 9:59:07 PM~!~Device control from menu~!~C1 Bright 10%
    3/24/2004 9:59:15 PM~!~Device control from menu~!~C1 Bright 50%
    3/24/2004 9:59:21 PM~!~Device control from menu~!~C1 Bright 100%
    </pre>
    As I have previously stated 50% works and 100% works
    but the 10% doesn't.

    Why are the commands different when sent from the remote and from the gui? Greg

    Rupp,

    What it looks like to me is that the palm pad is sending regular bright and dim commands but when you set the level from the HS GUI it is sending out preset dims (like it should). I'm not sure why your switch is not working correctly with preset dims.

    You could try a script that does an ExecX10(). I don't remember the parameters but I'm sure there are plenty of examples of sending preset dims.

      Well further testing reveal even more confusing stuff.

      If I right click in the GUI and send a dim command the log shows:

      3/24/2004 9:59:07 PM~!~Device control from menu~!~C1 Bright 10%
      3/24/2004 9:59:15 PM~!~Device control from menu~!~C1 Bright 50%
      3/24/2004 9:59:21 PM~!~Device control from menu~!~C1 Bright 100%

      but if I use the command execX10 to dim the fan it works but using hs.execX10 "C1", "dim", 10

      So why is dimming from the HS GUI sending Brights instead of dims?

        Rupp,

        I think the log entry is incorrect, but the correct command is being sent out. I tried this, and I got the Bright 10% in the log, however I have a second X10 controller, my StarGate, and it reported a PresetDim 3 was sent, which is correct. And my fan went to low as it should.

          Bill D,
          What version of HS are you using? This thread is reporting the exact same problem I'm having as well.
