macros running on a cm12

What effect HS do you think having macros running on a cm12
I’m thinking it would be nice to have a macro to switch of lights say once a day
if the computer was to crash when we are on holiday and some lights are on at the time they would stay on for the duration

Have you tried it? I have never downloaded to the CM11A because I didn't want to install an additional piece of software but I do not see why this wouldn't work.

No not yet the program I got with the CM12 just crashes the PC
Now I know why it is free
I think I can do it in HS but not had time to work it out yet
Unless you know of a better way

Can’t work out how it works
The instructions are not what I would call friendly
Or am I missing something (Not unusual)
It says it is for a CM12A will it work with a CM12U

I've seen a Java one that downloads macros to a CM11A and I know it will not download to a CM12U. Dont know if the author never did it, or the unit has some differences that prohibit it. This one does support the CM12U in other ways, but not Macros.

This is what I am trying to do
HomeSeer runs all the day to day things I want it to
Although the house is occupied by my family
I am sometimes away on business for some time
If the computer was to crash with some things switched on
They could stay on until I return
I would like the CM12U to do an “all off” say once a day at 2am
What do other people do or am I the only one to worry about this

I think it depends on how stable your homeseer computer is. I ran into a problem a few weeks ago with one script I was trying to use that caused my homeseer machine to crash every few days, but other than that I haven't really had any problems with it. It's up for months at a time and I wouldn't hesitate to leave it running if I were to go on vacation for several weeks.

On the other hand, if your machine isn't very stable or you don't trust it, then what you propose isn't a bad idea. I have no experience with the hawizard software, so I don't know for sure if it would work with your controller, but either way I would hesitate to purchase something like that just to program one simple macro.

Personally I'd try to figure out why the software that came with your controller doesn't work. You should be able to program your macro with that software, then start homeseer and it should run fine with the macro programmed in.

Download the latest version of ActiveHome here.

Try and find a PC/Laptop which still has Win9X and run the program on that. Connect the CM12 to the serial port and everything should work!
