I bought the Brightspeech voices (Heather) but I have to say that the Neospeech voices (Kate) sound better to me. The Brightspeech voices sound too computery to me and choppy. Kate speaks much better for me.

There is a editor for the Brightspeech voices but you have to shell out the money for TextAloud in order to do it.

Guess I can sell the Brightspeech voices on ebay.
        Cheers,
        Bob

Had a chat with the other heather users and you seem to have an issue somewhere to do with voices.
Computery and choppy? wow, the voice here is smoother than Kate ever was and as for chopy.. something on your system must be causing that.

My speaker.exe memory usage hs dropped by 50% with heather.. I must confess to having to adjust the speaking speed slightly but thats just for my personal taste.

I AM surprised you are having issues with her..

Yep you must be having a system issue or have a very slow machine to see any choppiness with Heather. She is clearly the best voice I have heard. (That is subjective, but choppiness is not)

My computer is a Celeron 2.6 Ghz with 1 Gb RAM. I would think that this is enough to run the voices.

So would I. What kind of sound card are you using?
(He says... hoping the answer is not SoundMax)

It is a soundmax I am using. It is integrated into the motherboard

I'm not a big fan.... I would try getting separate sound card and testing again.
They are pretty cheap now a days.

I would buy another sound card but I do not have any more available PCI slots in the computer.

Is there anyway to get around this?
                      Cheers,

I know that USB sound cards are available, but I dont have any experience with them. You could try updating the SoundMax drivers too.

Hmmm. I already have the latest drivers for SoundMax

Can anyone comment on external USB sound cards?
                          Cheers,

                            I am currently using Anjali....

I think it is the most realistic sounding one. The Britespeech voices sound good but tend to make alot of speech errors.

I think maybe since the Brightspeech voices are 24bit and my sound card is only 16bit that is why it does not sound that great.

The only problem is that I do not have anymore PCI slots in the machine

I am not sure about getting a USB sound card or not. I have been thinking about this one:
