hard drive problem - "the volume contains unrecoverable problem"

One of my PC's seems to have a hard drive problem. A week ago it wouldn't boot properly. I booted from a CD and ran Chkdsk and it found errors - and I was able to get it going.

Now I have a similar problem, and when running Chkdsk (using "chkdsk /r") it gets 62% through the check and then says "the volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems".

Ideas on what to try next to fix?

    Yes... A new drive.
Once you start finding hardware errors on a drive, it's time to replace it, and fast.

          Time for a new drive...

Circuit City has Seagate 200 GB IDE hardrives on sale for $39.00 (after rebate). They have a 5 year warranty.

Compusa has Hitachi 80 GB IDE harddrives on sale for $29.00 (after rebate). They have a 1 year warranty.

I own both drives and they are pretty quiet.

          Good luck :-)
